‍Biography

I started my career as a university academician 19 years ago in March 2005. Over the years, I have taught 228 credit-hour courses in this university for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, supervised 21 PhD and 9 Master Research students as the main supervisor with 9 PhD and 8 master students graduated, led 32 out of 77 research projects that I am involved in (total MYR5525701.00), lead and assisted in 30 consultation works (MYR2318101.56), received 1 utility innovative.

I am a Bachelor holder in Civil Engineering discipline from UTM. I have obtained a Master of Civil Engineering (Geotechnics) from UTM in 2005. Then, I pursued my PhD study in Geotechnical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Sheffield, England and graduated with my doctorate in November 2011. My research was related to the failure behaviour of soft soil treated with a group of soil-cement columns formed by the Deep Mixing (DM) method.

To date, I have published 153 journal papers, 20 papers for technical proceedings, and 3 book chapters. Out of 153 journals, 101 are indexed in the ISI database, 52 are indexed by Scopus, and 3 journal papers are classified as non-indexed refereed journals. The total cumulative impact factors that I have contributed to UTM for sustaining research university status were 244.275. Apart from writing, I am actively involved as a manuscript reviewer and have reviewed more than 50 journals, including the Journal of Geological and Geotechnical Engineering, the International Journal of GEOMATE, and the Geotechnical Testing Journal (ASTM).

In research work, I have successfully obtained 32 research grants as a project leader with a total amount of nearly RM 2.5 million for several national grants (2 Escience-MOSTI, 2 FRGS-MOHE, 1 PRGS-MOHE, 1 ERGS-MOHE, 3 GUP-UTM, 1 NAS-UTM and 2 Post Doc.-UTM). Besides that, I am also a team member for the Networking Grant with Prof Takashi Tsutsumi from Kagoshima College, National Institute of Technology, Japan. 30 research grants were successfully completed on time with excellent financial management.

I have implemented an active learning process during my lecture. Apart from conveying basic knowledge via formal teaching and learning session, I have also implemented a teamwork project basis by using a real case study assignment for the students to practice their learned knowledge in solving the problem. My teaching approach is appreciated by my students and it was reflected in my annual course evaluation in UTM e-PPP system, with average rate of 4.3/5.0.

I have served the faculty and university in a broad range of activities and events, such as organizing a monthly religion talk (Kuliah Dhuha) and assisting at international conferences. In conjunction with the university’s inspiration to increase the publication number, I have been invited as a speaker and facilitator for the publication workshop organized by the faculty. Moreover, I have been appointed to the editorial board of a faculty journal known as the Malaysia Journal of Civil Engineering (MJCE).

I am actively involved in consultation work, for which I have received almost RM 5.5 million from the work. The most recent consultation work is the development and installation of a settlement monitoring device at the Tanjung Bin Independent Power Plant. Currently, I have been appointed as a Fellow of the Centre of Excellent under the Tropical Geoengineering Centre (Geotropik).

In conjunction with the inspiration of university in increasing the publication number, I have been invited as a keynote speaker for several conferences and facilitator for the publication workshop organised by the faculty and government agencies. Moreover, I have been appointed as an editorial board of faculty journal known as Malaysia Journal of Civil Engineering (MJCE).

In term of community service, I have served as a committee member for the Parent and Teacher Organisation (PIBG) of Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Sri Pulai, Johor. I also have been invited as a speaker for a motivation program organised by Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Sri Pulai and Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Pulai Perdana. Furthermore, I have been involved in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program at Kampung Orang Asli Simpang Arang, Gelang Patah, Johor, and helped the flood victims at Gua Musang, Kelantan.
