Profile of JS

Dr Lim Jeng Shiun is currently the Products and Services Manager of Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT), Univesiti Teknologi Malaysia. His core expertise is in the area of the innovative development and application of process systems engineering techniques for resource conservation, and for energy and carbon planning. 

 Dr Lim has published 72 Scopus indexed articles to date. His Scopus h-index is currently 15 with 697 citations.  He is appointed as a member of International Editorial Board Member of JCLEPRO (IF: 5.975). He is also being appointed as the guest editor for Special Issue of JCLEPRO (IF: 3.398) and Chemical Engineering Transactions (Scopus indexed). He has also been involved as the reviewers of CTEP (IF: 1.934), RSER (IF: 5.901) and JCLEPRO (IF: 3.398).

Dr Lim is a certified country expert of “Steam System Optimisation” under UNIDO. He is also professional Chartered Engineer, Certified Energy Manager, and a Registered Electrical Energy Manager certified by Energy Commissions of Malaysia. As an engineer in practice, he has applied the output of his research work in consultancy projects for the industrial community. He has been extensively involved in 22 research projects, 11 industrial based projects for various companies and government agencies. The key clients include local industries and multinational companies such as BERNAS, FABER MEDISERVE, SHELL, OLEON in Malaysia and PERTAMINA in Indonesia. He has assisted those companies identify energy saving opportunities worth millions of dollar through the use of process integration and process systems engineering approach.

Dr Lim is a key research team member for the project on the Development of Low Carbon Society (LCS) Scenarios for Asian Regions, an international joint research program between Japan and Malaysia. One of the key outputs of this project is the development of Energy Chapter of LCS Blueprint for Iskandar Malaysia 2025, which is endorsed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia during the COP 18 Doha Climate Change Conference. He was subsequently involved in focus discussion group (FGD) involving local authorities, corporate and community representatives to strategise the implementation the low carbon project in Iskandar Malaysia at the local authorities’ level. He was also involved in transforming Felda Taib Andak, a rural community in Johor, into the Low Carbon Village in Malaysia. He is also involved in developing the training module to disseminate the research output of the LCS projects to ASEAN countries. He is currently preparing the LCS Blueprint for Kuala Lumpur City.

In commercialisation, Dr Lim is the cofounder and Director of Products and Services of a UTM Spin-off company. He has filed for 2 patents, 6 copyrights and developed 4 software products.  The products and outputs of his research have won numerous national and international awards. The key awards include the Integrated Distributed Energy Application System (IDEAS) which has won the Highly Commended under IChemE Sustainable Technology Global Award 2014 and a Gold medal in the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2013. Another product, the Solid Waste Management Resource Recovery Tool (SMART) has also won a Gold medal in the SIIF 2013. Recently, one of his product, e-SMART (an online energy monitoring system), have won the commercialisation grants that worth more than RM 800k.
