Special invention award Inatex 2017 (Anugerah Khas Juri INATEX 2017)

Inatex 2017 has been held on 21-23 November 2017. For this year, we took part in two projects, one in gas application and another one in water application. Last year was the first time we took part in INATEX, you can read about my participation in INATEX 2016 here. So, for 2017, I tried to challenge myself to take part in INATEX bringing two projects. And the results turn really well, Alhamdulillah 🙂

Alhamdulillah, never expected to get the special invention award in INATEX 2017..has always been just an ordinary researcher in my centre (there’s so many extraordinary researcher in my lab ?) and to get the recognition in university level..the feeling is beyond satisfaction?.. I am so grateful to have excellent students under my supervision and good support system (family and friends) who always encourage me to try my best?…seriously at first planning not to join this year’s competition as I have doubt on the demo part but my intention is to be fair to each of my students (last year bring dila’s product, why not bring faten’s product dis year?), and alhamdulillah the result turns really well.. we manage to win three award 1. Special Award for POLYACRYLONITRILE/MAGNESIUM OXIDE-BASED ACTIVATED CARBON NANOFIBERS FOR METHANE ADSORPTION 2. Gold Award for POLYACRYLONITRILE/MAGNESIUM OXIDE-BASED ACTIVATED CARBON NANOFIBERS FOR METHANE ADSORPTION 3. Silver Award for SMART NANOSTRUCTURED MEMBRANES FOR ADVANCED WATER TREATMENT.. Alhamdulillah, 2017 has been a fruitful year for us :)..Gonna work extra hard to achieve good results in the year of 2018…

The full list of winner for INATEX 2017 can be found here http://rmc.utm.my/inatex/inatex-award-achievement/list-of-winners-inatex-2017

Sakura Program in Meiji University

Technical training of UTM in Meiji University, Ikuta Campus

My students (10 of them) and I went to  Meiji University, school of science and engineering from October 16 to Oct 25 for technical visit and laboratory training .

UTM and Meiji university has very close relationship and this visit strengthen the existing collaboration between both universities. The host of this visit is Professor Kazukiyo Nagai who is professor in Applied Chemistry that actively doing research in membrane technology.

On the first day,  we met with Prof Nagai and his students, Ms Yuko (administrative staff  that arrange this Sakura visit) and the dean of School of Science and Technology. On the second day, Prof Nagai’s students took us for campus tour and a welcome party to experience the culture and tradition of Meiji University.

Starting on the third day, we were divided into groups for laboratory and experimental experience.

On the weekend we went to  UTM Satellite Office, and the museum of Meiji University. Next we were guided for educational tour to National Museum of Science and Technology (Miraikan) where their advancement in science and technology are being exhibited with robots, gadgets and etc.

The closing ceremony was held on the last day whereby all of us received the certificate and SAKURA membership.

All in all, it is always such a nice experience to visit Japan 🙂

Sakura Program in Science

Early this year I apply for the Sakura Exchange Program in Science to visit Meiji University in district of Kawasaki, Tokyo.

Alhamdulillah, around Raya Aidilfitri in June, I received the good news from my sensei in Meiji University that our application has been approved by JST.

This program is actually a program that support the Asian youths coming to Japan participate in activities such as attending special lectures, visiting research laboratories at the receiving organization, for a period of 10 days.

JST will cover all the flight, meal and accommodation in Japan and this time I will bring 10 of my students to join this program on Oct 15 till Oct 25th to experience the life culture as a student in Japan :)…

Hopefully the students may get many benefits from this program.

Gold Medal in IIID Johor 2017

On 9th of March 2017, my team and I participated in International Invention, Innovation and Design (IIID) Johor 2017 organized by UITM Johor held in Grand Ballroom, Amansari Residence Resort Bandar Seri Alam, Johor. With its motto ‘The Power of Innovation: From Prototype to Commercialization’, the objective of this exhibition is to

i. Promote a culture of innovation and creativity among professionals, university students and students from various fields.

ii. Highlighting the R & D and new inventions in the field of Science, ICT, Social Sciences, Business and Management.

iii. Generate designs and inventions that can be commercialized at national and international levels.

The exhibition is divided into three categories which are Professional, Tertiary and school level.

We entered the Science and Technology category under Professional level with me as the team leader.

We use the same product as in INATEX before but with some improvements on the presentation.

Since this was my second experience entering an Innovation competition, I am quite relax and a little be more prepared on the questions that might be asked by the panels 🙂

And Alhamdulillah for IIID Johor 2017, our project managed to get a GOLD MEDAL award.

I am beyond happy with these achievement considering that just recently I have the guts and courage to join such competition :)..

Macam dah lama tinggal competitiveness spirit tu time zaman sekolah2 dulu jer 🙂

But again thanks Allah SWT for the blessing :)..

I am happy with our achievement :)..its something to be proud of 🙂
