Undergraduate Final Year Projects

2018:

Siti Najat Binti Hasmadi. Her undergraduate project is on the Implementation of Urban Stormwater Management in Johor Bahru (selected area). She wants to understand the relationship between the implemented or constructed urban stormwater management facilities and the occurrence of urban floods or vulnerability of urban areas on flooding problems.

Amy Nadiea Nazierah Binti Ibrahim. She investigates the implementation of ‘zero waste to landfill site’ in the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, as UTM gradually implements sustainable campus.

Muhammad Hanif Bin Sajuri. His project is on the awareness of citizens on waste reduction, reuse and recycle (3Rs) in two (hopefully) different characteristics of neighborhoods of high-income and low income. He would compare the awareness of high income people and low income people on 3Rs.

Doresta Anak John. Her undergraduate project is on the involvement of rural community in solid waste management by a local authority. The in-depth involvement of local rural community in waste management would improve the performance of waste management by local authority.

2017:

Muhamad Hanif Bin Hamsah. His project was on the impacts of the alteration of building use on traffic, possible conflict, and environment. For example, the initial use of the building was for residential purpose, then the owner altered it for commercial purpose. The obvious impact on this alteration is on traffic, as visitors would increase significantly. The study area was in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.

Akramussalam Bin Selamat. He investigated the attitude of the waste generators in commercial areas of Taman Universiti on their own produced wastes. This project was inspired with the fact of irresponsible waste dumping in commercial area by some waste generators.

2016:

Mohamad Fadhli Bin Rashid. He investigated the possible conflicts of different use of buildings in commercial areas. For example, restaurant next to car workshop. As restaurant needs immediate clear air with less noise, at the same time car workshop produces noise and smoke. The study areas were in some commercial areas in Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri (formerly known as MPJBT).

Hew Mei Hong. Her project was on the perception of local community on the physical development of Cameron Highland, Perak. She wanted to know whether the physical development of Cameron Highland as a tourist destination was perceived good or otherwise by local community.

Nor Ayati Binti Aziz. She investigated the implementation of energy-efficient buildings in UTM within the framework of sustainable UTM Campus. Although the process of understanding an energy-efficient building was based on secondary data and visual observation, she found that many buildings in UTM required retrofitting to be energy-efficient buildings.

Siti Alawiyah Binti Che’ Gani. Her project was on the impacts of past Kelantan’s floods on socio-economic conditions of affected people. Since the floods occurred in the past, the conditions were acquired merely based on the reports from the affected people and local authority.

2015:

Azalia Binti Mohd Yusop. Her undergraduate project was on the comparison of awareness on the implementation of waste reduce, reuse and recycle (3Rs) among different stream of high school students in Perak. She found that there were no significant difference on the awareness of students.

Balqis Binti Yacob. She investigated the impacts of physical development of Desaru beach as a tourist destination as perceived by local community, local authority and visitors. She found that the physical development in Desaru Beach brought positive impacts on local economic activities.

LV Yang. His project was on the implementation of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design principles in a community in high residential density in China. He explored the ‘broken-window theory’ as the basis of his investigation. He found that the more element of CPTED implemented the less worry on crime incident as perceived by local community.

Sari Wahyuni. Her project was on a Bus Rapid Transit system implemented by city government of Pekanbaru, Indonesia from the user’s viewpoint. Even though the BRT system was implemented recently and improvement was necessary, but majority of users perceived that the BRT operation was useful to reduce traffic congestion in the city.

Zainatul Asyhikin Bin Zaidi. Her project was on the connection between urban traffic and the air quality degradation in worst spots in Johor Bahru. She found that the high private car ownership, amid a sign of economic growth, in Johor Bahru greatly contributed to the degradation of air quality in Johor Bahru.

Wan Alsyahril Bin Wan Muhamad. He investigated the presence of industrial park of Taman Sri Yaacob on socio-economic of local community. He found that the presence of industrial park of Taman Sri Yaacob positive socio-economic impacts to the local community.
