Education
2009 - 2013
PhD in Electrical Engineering
Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
Ahmad Shahidan embarked on a fast-track PhD in Electrical Engineering (telecommunications) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia immediately following his bachelor’s graduation in 2009, completing his doctorate in 2013. His research centred on leveraging network coding to enhance data reliability and efficiency in wireless sensor networks under lossy or constrained conditions. He developed an on-the-fly data recovery (ODR) scheme using XOR-based network coding for multipath transmission to counteract packet loss. Complementing this, his work investigated multimedia transmission in IEEE 802.15.4-based wireless sensor networks, addressing throughput and energy-efficiency trade-offs. Additionally, he contributed to research published in UTM’s Jurnal Teknologi, reinforcing his expertise in enhancing resilience in wireless communication networks.
2005 - 2009
Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Telecommunication)
Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
Ahmad Shahidan completed his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (Telecommunication) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (2005–2009). The programme combined core electrical engineering subjects such as circuit theory, electronics, and digital systems with specialised courses in communication principles, signal processing, and microprocessors. He also undertook a 12-week industrial training to gain practical exposure in the field. In his final year, he specialised further through telecommunication electives and completed a Final Year Project on image transfer in wireless sensor networks, which was later published and presented at the International Conference on Computer and Electrical Engineering (ICCEN 2011).
