KUCHING, July 2 (Bernama) — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi tonight paid his last respects to former Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman here.
Ahmad Zahid who was accompanied by Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg joined in the ‘solat jenazah’ prayers which was led by Sarawak State Mosque imam Ustaz Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.
Daud, 66, who was also former Tupong assemblyman, died at the Timberland Medical Centre (TMC) this afternoon due to heart complications.
Ahmad Zahid when met by reporters said he had known Daud for sometime and they became close when he was Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department responsible for the country’s Islamic affairs.
He said they met each other very often because Daud was in charge of Sarawak Islamic affairs.
“Daud always gave top priority to religious affairs and was concerned about the welfare of orphans and Islamic religious education.
“May Allah shower His blessings on him,” said Ahmad Zahid.
Meanwhile, Abang Johari said he had known the late Daud since his school days.
“The late Daud had contributed immensely to the people of Sarawak. He was the Tupong assemblyman for five terms since 1991 but declined to contest in the 2016 Sarawak state election,” he said.
