‘Agent Maffeo!’ – City fans love youngster’s comments after man-marking Messi
On Saturday evening Girona and Barcelona played their first ever top-flight Catalan derby and Manchester City youngster Pablo Maffeo was tasked with marking Lionel Messi.
This wasn’t a usual man-marking job, he actually followed Messi everywhere across the pitch, even when he swapped sides or went deeper.
After the game Maffeo was asked about this experience to which he replied “”He asked me two things: if I was on loan from Man City and how old I was.”

And City fans, who have seen Messi linked to their club, couldn’t control themselves.
Messi chilled in Maffeo’s pocket for 90min.

Maffeo played for 78 minutes and had only 5 passes. He was only there to mark Messi. #GironaBarça #barcelona #fcb #messi #gironabarca

#MCFC’s loanees were very good tonight. Douglas Luiz & Aleix Garcia pulled strings in midfield. Maffeo did well vs. Messi, no bigger praise.
