JOHOR BAHRU, April 2 (Bernama) — There is a big demand for additional work force in Johor, especially skilled labour, but the younger generation favour jobs that offer comfort although wages offered are low.
State Unity and Human Resource committee chairman R Vidyananthan said there is a demand for skilled work force in various sectors, for example in Pengerang, Kota Tinggi where there is a high demand for skilled workers like engineers, welders, wiremen and others.
“The younger generation however, prefer to choose jobs that offer comfort although low wages are offered. They (younger generation) are not willing to work under the sun but prefer to work in an air conditioned environment.
“Therefore, changing the mindset of the younger generation is the state government’s biggest challenge. To change the perception is not easy and it needs the support and cooperation of all stake holders,” he told reporters after closing the Kembara Kerjaya Johor Berkemahiran 4.0 2017 at Kilang Bateri, here today.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Johor Bahru Member of Parliament Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.
The five-day programme participated by 41 government agencies, government linked companies and private sector saw 20,412 visitors who sought employment in manufacturing, hotel industry, furniture and property development.
