PUTRAJAYA, March 11 (Bernama) — The Women Cycling Convoy 2017 set new record in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as a cycling event with the most number of all-women participation.
The convoy, participated by 11,412 women of all races and ages, and organised by Badan Amal Kasih Ibu, was held in conjunction with the International Women’s Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya, here today.
The presentation of the award by the MBOR representative to Badan Amal Kasih Ibu chairman Datin Seri Anggraini Sentiyaki, who is also the wife of Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, was witnessed by Deputy Minister of Tourism and Culture Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
The program, also saw participation by celebrities including Vanidah Imran, Linda Onn, Sharifah Haslinda and Janna Nick, and broke previous record of 3,000 participations.
Earlier, in her speech Mas Ermieyati said the convoy with its tagline ‘This is Women’s Power’ was realised when the women took up the challenge to cycle between 10 to 25 kilometres, an event usually dominated by men.
Commitment to come together regardless of race, background and belief clearly showed the solidarity of women whenever they were required to step up and deliver, she said.
