The 29-year-old was in a taxi en route to the airport when it crashed into a pole, with images quickly circulating on social media.
Aguero was in the Dutch capital for a concert with Colombian singer Maluma, less than 48 hours before Premier League leaders City’s clash with Chelsea.
City have not put a timeframe on his recovery, saying in a statement that he would be assessed later on Friday:
“Sergio Aguero will be assessed by club doctors today after being involved in a road accident on Thursday. The City forward was in Holland on his day off and has sustained injuries. He will return to Manchester this morning and his status will be checked ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash at Chelsea.“
Aguero’s former club in Argentina, Independiente, said on Twitter: “Strength and fast recovery. All Independiente is with you at this difficult time.”
