{"id":335355,"date":"2017-03-09T07:33:00","date_gmt":"2017-03-08T23:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2017\/03\/08\/this-anti-social-robots-only-task-is-to-avoid-people\/21|21876526"},"modified":"2017-03-09T07:33:00","modified_gmt":"2017-03-08T23:33:00","slug":"this-anti-social-robots-only-task-is-to-avoid-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/people.utm.my\/asmawisham\/this-anti-social-robots-only-task-is-to-avoid-people\/","title":{"rendered":"This anti-social robot&#8217;s only task is to avoid people"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ShyBot was designed by Italian artist Norma Jeane and a team of engineers from <a href=\"http:\/\/codame.com\/events\/shybot-panel-and-exhibition\">Codame<\/a> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.desertx.org\/norma-jeane\">DesertX<\/a> art exhibition, in collaboration with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iicsanfrancisco.esteri.it\/iic_sanfrancisco\/en\/gli_eventi\/calendario\/norma-jeane-scene-with-shybot.html\">San Francisco Italian Cultural Institute<\/a>. In her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iicsanfrancisco.esteri.it\/iic_sanfrancisco\/en\/gli_eventi\/calendario\/norma-jeane-scene-with-shybot.html\">artist statement<\/a>, Jeane said the robot is &#8220;based on an algorithm designed precisely to evade the human perspective.&#8221; So, from February 27th to March 4th, the six-wheeler evaded as well as it could, roaming the Coachella Valley in an effort to hide from everybody. ShyBot was so anti-social that it <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/201505425\">even avoided the drones<\/a> used to film its adventure if they got too close.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"360\" mozallowfullscreen=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/205976218\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"640\">[embedded content]<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As the autonomous, solar-powered rover traversed the California desert, it was tracked in real time using GPS technology, curious viewers can revisit the whole journey <a href=\"http:\/\/shybot.codame.com\/\">here<\/a>. While Shybot avoided being seen, it did have a camera that transmitted its point of view to San Francisco art gallery <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelab.org\/\">The Lab<\/a> for an exhibition called &#8220;Norma Jeane: Scene with ShyBot.&#8221; We&#8217;re sure it hated the attention, even from afar.<\/p>\n<p>The sad irony is, that we&#8217;ve never wanted to hug a robot more.
