Job finder app, JobToday, has inked a new media for equity deal worth $35 million.<\/p>\n

The Luxembourg-based startup\u00a0is\u00a0one of several European players seeking to switch CV-style\u00a0recruitment for blue collar\u00a0jobs to an faster, app-based interface that returns results based on location and lets potential recruits and employers connect over mobile chat. Rivals include\u00a0CornerJob<\/a>,\u00a0Jobandtalent<\/a>,\u00a0inploi<\/a>\u00a0and Gig<\/a>, to name a few. Others have also pursued the media for equity route to gaining faster exposure for apps that can only function well with a critical mass\u00a0of users.<\/p>\n

The Accel backed startup closed a $20M Series B round<\/a> last November which also included three\u00a0media investors:\u00a0Astremedia (Spain), Channel 4 (UK), and German Media Pool VC \u2014 two of whom (Astremedia and\u00a0German Media Pool) are part of the new\u00a0media for equity deal, along with a second\u00a0German broadcaster, RTL Germany (which owns a strategic minority shareholding in Atresmedia).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe media players are giving us broadcasting inventory with a gross value of $35 million \u2014 in exchange for which they get equity stake in the company,\u201d confirms\u00a0co-founder Polina\u00a0Montano.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are different channels, it doesn\u2019t have to be TV only, it can be other channels such as outdoor advertising, billboards, radio \u2014 but mostly it is TV,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n

While\u00a0JobToday is not yet launched in Germany, Montano says\u00a0it will do so this year.<\/p>\n

At this point the app has more than 2.5 million registered users in the two markets where it currently operates, the UK and Spain; along with more than 200,000 registered employers (up from around 2M users and 150k businesses in November).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re processing about one million job applications per week,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n

JobToday notes that\u00a0RTL Group reaches audiences around the world and owns stakes in TV channels and radio stations in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Hungary, Croatia and South East Asia.<\/p>\n

So having a strategic link to the broadcaster\u2019s footprint sets up JobToday to step into additional\u00a0markets in future\u00a0\u2014 although for the next six months, at least, Polina says the focus is on \u201csolidifying leadership\u201d in its two European markets, and\u00a0also preparing to launch in a third: Germany.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
