{"id":380483,"date":"2017-08-10T19:30:30","date_gmt":"2017-08-10T11:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2017\/08\/10\/ikea-tradfri-smart-lighting-supports-homekit\/"},"modified":"2017-08-10T19:30:30","modified_gmt":"2017-08-10T11:30:30","slug":"ikea-tradfri-smart-lighting-system-supports-apple-homekit-update-not-yet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/people.utm.my\/asmawisham\/ikea-tradfri-smart-lighting-system-supports-apple-homekit-update-not-yet\/","title":{"rendered":"IKEA Tr\u00e5dfri Smart Lighting System Supports Apple HomeKit [Update: Not Yet]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IKEA&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ikea.com\/us\/en\/catalog\/categories\/departments\/lighting\/36812\/\">Tr\u00e5dfri smart lighting system<\/a> is now officially compatible with HomeKit, Apple&#8217;s smart home management platform.<\/p>\n<p>The support was confirmed in IKEA&#8217;s response to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ikeasverige\/posts\/10155146641966137\">question posted<\/a> on its Facebook page this morning, after a customer noticed a change in the technical specifications on the company&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ikea.com\/se\/sv\/catalog\/products\/80338960\/\">Tr\u00e5dfri product page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.macrumors.com\/article-new\/2017\/03\/IKEA-Still-1592x796-800x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-557202\"\/><br \/>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.meethue.com\/content\/philips-hue-and-ikea-tr%C3%A5dfri?page=2\">thread in the Philips Hue developer support forum<\/a>, IKEA&#8217;s smart lighting bulbs are now also compatible with the Philips Hue Bridge, once the products&#8217; software has been manually updated.<\/p>\n<p>Existing Tr\u00e5dfri gateway owners need to ensure they have the latest <a href=\"http:\/\/fw.ota.homesmart.ikea.net\/feed\/version_info.json\">firmware upgrade<\/a> for their devices to pair them with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, or Google Home.<\/p>\n<p>IKEA had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2017\/05\/23\/ikea-homekit-support-tradfri-smart-lighting\/\">promised<\/a> HomeKit support for its affordable range of home lighting products back in May. The system was originally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2017\/03\/28\/ikea-smart-lighting-range\/\">announced in late March<\/a>, and includes LED bulbs, illuminated panels, a motion sensor kit, a gateway kit, and dimming lights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update:<\/strong> Sadly, it looks as if IKEA&#8217;s confirmation of Tr\u00e5dfri HomeKit support earlier today was in error. IKEA has since made the following statement on its Swedish <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ikeasverige\/posts\/10155146641966137?comment_id=10155147662051137&amp;comment_tracking=%7B%22tn%22%3A%22R%22%7D\">Facebook page<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"8\">\n<p>There has been information going out today about the compatibility of TR\u00c5DFRI. We can now inform you that TR\u00c5DFRI is not yet compatible with Apple, Amazon and Google. The plan is that everything will work as we&#8217;d like this fall.
