{"id":387873,"date":"2017-08-22T02:47:39","date_gmt":"2017-08-21T18:47:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2017\/08\/21\/tvos-11-beta-j105a-apple-tv-4k\/"},"modified":"2017-08-22T02:47:39","modified_gmt":"2017-08-21T18:47:39","slug":"new-tvos-11-beta-references-j105a-code-name-for-upcoming-apple-tv-with-4k-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/people.utm.my\/asmawisham\/new-tvos-11-beta-references-j105a-code-name-for-upcoming-apple-tv-with-4k-support\/","title":{"rendered":"New tvOS 11 Beta References &#8216;J105a,&#8217; Code Name for Upcoming Apple TV with 4K Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple today released the seventh beta of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2017\/08\/21\/apple-seeds-tvos-11-beta-7-to-developers\/\">upcoming tvOS 11<\/a> update for the fourth-generation Apple TV, and within the beta, there appear to be assets for &#8220;J105a,&#8221; previously revealed as the code name for an upcoming 4K Apple TV.<\/p>\n<p>Developer Guilherme Rambo, who has made a name for himself delving into the HomePod firmware, shared a screenshot depicting HDR image assets with a file name that includes &#8220;J105a.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.macrumors.com\/article-new\/2017\/08\/tvos11beta7j105appletvreference-800x159.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"159\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-583014\"\/><\/p>\n<p><center readability=\"0.69402985074627\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-cards=\"hidden\" data-lang=\"en\" readability=\"3.4701492537313\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">tvOS 11 Beta 7 contains some HDR assets for model J105A &#x1f607; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/IH2XdDfrrW\">pic.twitter.com\/IH2XdDfrrW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Guilherme Rambo (@_inside) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_inside\/status\/899696239788384260\">August 21, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/center><br \/>The &#8220;J105a&#8221; name was first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2017\/02\/16\/apple-4k-capable-fifth-generation-apple-tv\/\">shared by <em>Bloomberg<\/em><\/a> in February, in a report that suggested Apple was working on a fifth-generation Apple TV capable of streaming Ultra HD 4K video.<\/p>\n<p>That report said Apple could release a new fifth-generation 4K Apple TV as early as this year, and since then, we&#8217;ve seen continued references to the new model, suggesting a release could actually happen in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the &#8220;J105a&#8221; assets found in today&#8217;s tvOS 11 beta, references to the code name were also discovered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2017\/08\/05\/homepod-firmware-4k-hdr-apple-watch-lte\/\">in the HomePod firmware<\/a>. That information suggested the device could support Dolby Vision and HDR10 color formats.<\/p>\n<p>In March, evidence of an Apple TV <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2017\/03\/16\/new-appletv-6-2-developer-logs\/\">identified as AppleTV 6,2<\/a> was found in developer logs with a Cupertino IP, and AppleTV 6,2 does not correspond to an existing Apple TV model. The current fourth-generation Apple TV is known as AppleTV 5,2.<\/p>\n<p>Apple has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macrumors.com\/2017\/07\/28\/apple-listing-select-itunes-movies-as-4k-hdr\/\">started listing select movies<\/a> as 4K and HDR in iTunes purchase history, leading to speculation that a new Apple TV is imminent.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from <em>Bloomberg<\/em>&#8216;s report earlier this year, there has been no concrete confirmation that Apple plans to introduce a new Apple TV soon, but the continued mentions of J105a both in the HomePod firmware and in the tvOS 11 beta suggest we could perhaps see a new Apple TV announced this fall alongside new iPhone models.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apple today released the seventh beta of an upcoming tvOS 11 update for the fourth-generation Apple TV, and within the beta, there appear to be assets for &#8220;J105a,&#8221; previously revealed as the code name for an upcoming 4K Apple TV.
