{"id":4308,"date":"2018-03-05T22:38:04","date_gmt":"2018-03-05T14:38:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/people.utm.my\/azlans\/?p=4308"},"modified":"2018-03-05T22:38:04","modified_gmt":"2018-03-05T14:38:04","slug":"utm-improves-from-90-to-53-in-qs-wur-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/people.utm.my\/azlans\/utm-improves-from-90-to-53-in-qs-wur-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"UTM improves from #90 to #53 in QS WUR 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<h1 class=\"entry-title\"><\/h1>\n<p class=\"entry-meta\">March 1, 2018\u00a0by\u00a0<span class=\"entry-author\"><a class=\"entry-author-link\" href=\"https:\/\/news.utm.my\/author\/sabri\/\" rel=\"author\"><span class=\"entry-author-name\">Office of Corporate Affairs<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>JOHOR BAHRU, 1 March 2018 \u2013 Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has improved its ranking in\u00a0QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018 after\u00a0leaping 37 places to 53 in the Engineering and Technology.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-33366\" src=\"https:\/\/news.utm.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/bbb.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"349\" height=\"144\" \/>The result was released by<em>\u00a0Quacquarelly Symonds (QS)<\/em>\u00a0today.<\/p>\n<p>This year, more than 4,500 institutions have been evaluated in 48 Subjects and five Broad Subject Areas, making the QS S<em>ubject Rankings 2018<\/em>\u00a0the most comprehensive of its kind.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-33368\" src=\"https:\/\/news.utm.my\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/4bd5eef0-1235-462a-ba56-e1cef4d9d19f-551x413.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"413\" \/>In 2018, UTM has been ranked in four out of five broad subjects which are Engineering &amp; Technology; Arts and Humanities; Natural Sciences; and Social Sciences and Management.<\/p>\n<p>There are 14 subjects ranked in total and five subjects ranked in the Top 100 \u2013 Architecture\/ Built Environment; Engineering (Chemical); Engineering (Mechanical, Aeronautical &amp; Manufacturing); Engineering (Electric &amp; Electronic); and Engineering (Civil &amp; Structural).<\/p>\n<p>Other subjects also show very good improvement, which can be summarised as follows:<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"274\"><strong>Broad Subject<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"142\"><strong>Rank in 2018<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"142\"><strong>Rank in 2017<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"274\">Arts and Humanities<\/td>\n<td width=\"142\">272<\/td>\n<td width=\"142\">296<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"274\">Natural Sciences<\/td>\n<td width=\"142\">311<\/td>\n<td width=\"142\">378<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"274\">Social Sciences and Management<\/td>\n<td width=\"142\">122<\/td>\n<td width=\"142\">204<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>This significant performance is largely attributed to the strong commitment by UTM faculty members to provide the best support in facilitating students\u2019 learning experience, while harnessing potential talent among students to strive for excellence.<\/p>\n<p>UTM is also set to engage in more impactful research collaborations that can ultimately lead to improved performance through joint publications and increased citations.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, UTM will continue its efforts in enhancing research collaborations with partners across the globe, especially in areas of mutual interests.<\/p>\n<p>This would help UTM researchers to leap forward and stay relevant and visible among peers at the global level.<\/p>\n<p>UTM would like to congratulate and thank all staff and students who contributed and put effort into this achievement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March 1, 2018\u00a0by\u00a0Office of Corporate Affairs JOHOR BAHRU, 1 March 2018 \u2013 Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has improved its ranking in\u00a0QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018 after\u00a0leaping 37 places to 53 in the Engineering and Technology.
