JOHOR BAHRU, 21 Dec 2024 – The Faculty of Civil Engineering (FKA), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), successfully conducted an Industrial Training (LI) Seminar on the 13th and 20th of December 2024 at the D02 Smart Classroom, FKA, UTM. This event provided invaluable insights for students as they prepare for their upcoming industrial training.

The seminar was officially opened by the Deputy Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Hidayat Jamal, who emphasized the importance of bridging academic learning with practical industry exposure. He also highlighted the pivotal role industrial training plays in developing professional skills essential for the engineering field.

The seminar was attended by 230 Year 3 students, who are set to embark on their industrial training in the 3rd semester of the 2024/2025 session. Organized by the FKA LI Committee with assistance from the Persatuan Kejuruteraan Awam (PEKA), the event brought together expertise from both academia and industry.

The program was delivered through six comprehensive modules presented by four internal speakers and two distinguished industry professionals from GJ Runding Sdn Bhd and Akrab Runding Sdn Bhd. These sessions provided a detailed understanding of real-world civil engineering challenges and practical solutions, ensuring students are well-prepared for their professional journeys.

This seminar serves as a significant milestone in the academic journey of FKA students. It was designed to:

  • Bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications.
  • Enhance students’ technical and professional skills.
  • Lay the foundation for future career success in civil engineering.

The seminar’s objectives align with the faculty’s mission to produce industry-ready civil engineers with advanced academic knowledge and technical expertise. These are encapsulated in the five Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs), which emphasize practical application, problem-solving, and professional development.

Associate Professor Ts. Ir. Dr. Mohd Hidayat Jamal encouraged students to approach their industrial training with enthusiasm, responsibility, and a commitment to excellence, urging them to make the most of this opportunity to apply their learning in real-world settings.

This seminar underscores FKA’s dedication to fostering future-ready civil engineers, capable of addressing challenges and making meaningful contributions to the engineering profession and nation-building.
