Research of interests:
* study the potential of manipulating secondary metabolites in local medicinal plants by tissue culture approach;
* study the role of pks gene (polyketide synthase) in flavonoid biosynthetic pathway
Currently, we have successfully isolated full-length polyketide synthase gene from Melastoma decemfidum (Senduduk putih) which could lead to naringenin and kaempferol biosynthesis. Future works such as gene expression study and protein characterization i.e enzyme activity and transformation of the gene in M. decemfidum will be conducted. Other medicinal plants such Justicia gendarussa and Abrus precatorius are also studied.
