19th July 2025 – It was an incredible honour to take part in the 50th World Chemistry Congress (WCC) and IUPAC General Assembly 2025, held this year in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 14th July 2025 to 19th July 2025 marking the first time this prestigious event has ever taken place in an ASEAN country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Malaysian chemist, I felt a deep sense of pride and excitement seeing our country host thousands of scientists from across the globe. As shared by Datuk ChM Dr Ting Kueh Soon<\/strong>, President of Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn behalf of Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM) and the people of Malaysia, it is our pleasure to extend a warm welcome to you for IUPAC 2025 in Kuala Lumpur.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s theme, \u201cChemistry for a Sustainable Future,\u201d couldn\u2019t be more timely. The congress highlighted how chemistry plays a crucial role in addressing today\u2019s most urgent global challenges from renewable energy to waste reduction, food security, and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the key features of IUPAC 2025 was a dedicated set of symposia focusing on Chemistry and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The sessions explored real-world chemical solutions for a more sustainable and equitable world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had the privilege of presenting my research during the conference, titled “Quality Assessment of Refined, Bleached, Deodorized Palm Oil and Refined Used Cooking Oil Based on Free Fatty Acid Content for Biodiesel Production”. My work focuses on biofuel quality and its potential as a sustainable alternative energy source, an area of growing importance in the global energy transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you to Institut Kimia Malaysia<\/strong>, IUPAC<\/strong>, and all the organizers for making this event possible. I’m excited to carry the insights and connections from this congress into future projects and collaborations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
