With methods such as Density Functional Theory (DFT), we can predict how a molecule might look, where a ligand prefers to bind, how electrons are distributed, and which structures are likely to be stable. Think of it as a \u201cvirtual experiment\u201d that helps guide real ones. This saves time, reduces wasted materials, and often points us in the right direction from the start.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span>But computers don\u2019t replace the lab. They support it. After synthesising a compound, researchers compare experimental results \u2014 like FTIR, NMR, UV\u2013Vis, or X-ray data \u2014 with theoretical predictions. When both agree, we gain confidence in our structures and interpretations. When they don\u2019t, that\u2019s often where the most interesting questions appear. This back-and-forth between theory and experiment helps us understand not just <\/span><em>what<\/em><span> happens, but <\/span><em>why<\/em><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span>So how reliable are these calculations? Modern computational methods are very good at predicting molecular shapes, bonding trends, and electronic properties. While exact energies can vary depending on settings and models, theory is excellent for spotting patterns and explaining behaviour \u2014 especially when combined with experimental evidence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span>For students, this blend of computation and synthesis opens exciting possibilities. You don\u2019t have to choose between coding and chemistry \u2014 you can do both.
