The World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2025 (Figure 1) identifies misinformation and disinformation as the critical global risks, projecting them to become the significant threats to countries, businesses and individuals over the next two years (World Economic Forum 2025). The rise of misinformation, the decline in fact checking on social media and the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) generated deep fakes pose significant dangers, eroding trust and intensifying tensions among countries (Goodwin, 2025).<\/p>\n

These risks demand innovative, collaborative, and proactive strategies to build resilience at local, national, and global levels. As an academic institution, we have a pivotal role in fostering research, critical discourse, and policy solutions to address these pressing issues.<\/p>\n
