I studied at Monfort Primary School and Kindergarten (1984-91), and received a five years secondary education at High School Batu Pahat, Johor (1992-96). I went to University Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) from 1997-2011, and received a Bachelor in Chemical-Bioprocess Engineering. The hard time during the 1997 economy crisis made me a different person during my training. Soon after graduation, I worked as a Research Assistance Biotechnologist in Bioprocess Technology Institute at Singapore NUS-A*STAR. In 2004, despite I was offered with better options, I chose to return to UTM and registered for a Master program. A year later, I was converted to a PhD program. I started to serve UTM as a tutor in 2007 and appointed as a lecturer in 2008. My former headmaster was a ‘Aspire to Inspire’ man. I was given a handwritten bookmark with a tag “Genius is 1% inspiration, 99% perspiration”, since then, I became a student for life. Education is a life long process.
I am particular interested in understanding the diversity of living organisms in extreme environment, in particular hot springs. God has created amazing thermophilic microorganism and enzymes that can survive at water boiling temperature. I will continue to spend the rest of my life exploring this interesting research area.
