One of the students asked me whether I have an Instagram account.\u00a0 I said “No, I don’t have<\/em><\/span>“.\u00a0 He then sheepishly replied “I thought that you have one.\u00a0 I have an account.\u00a0 I like to post English quotes on my Insta.\u00a0 I thought you might have seen it<\/em><\/span>“.\u00a0 \u00a0I asked him again “Is it important for me to have an Insta account just to look at your posts<\/em>?\u00a0 Do you want me to stalk you via your Insta?<\/em><\/span>”\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When the millennials ask me about the trending social media and whatsnot, I feel old.\u00a0 Well, it is a choice that I made not to have more than 3 social media outlets.\u00a0 I have Facebook, Friendster (which is no longer existed), researchgate<\/a> and my own official webpage i.e. https:\/\/people.utm.my\/hadijahjaffri\/.\u00a0<\/strong> What more do I need right?\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0I know that it is trending to have accounts in Insta, Twitter and whatsnot.\u00a0 But, let’s face this.\u00a0 I had passed the phase when I was concerned about who should know about me and why they should know me.\u00a0 Capisc?\u00a0 \u00a0Even though it is somewhat required that I should share my knowledge with others, but I need a space for my own privacy.\u00a0 Having Insta or Twitter clearly indicates that I am willing to “jeopardize” or “negotiate” my freedom and privacy.\u00a0 \u00a0Nope.\u00a0 Facebook, researchgate and this web page is enough for me.\u00a0 Call me oldies.\u00a0 I admit that.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why don’t I just close my FB account if I treasure my privacy that much?\u00a0 Well, I have dear friends and mentors that I can only keep in touch using FB rather than through phone because I don’t have their phone number.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Why don’t I get their number then?\u00a0 I don’t think I have that honour yet to ask for their numbers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
