I am not a big fan of any singer.\u00a0 But I do listen to good songs with meaningful lyrics such as songs by Richard Marx and such.\u00a0 I have been listening to his songs for more than 10 years (since I was a teenager).\u00a0 Little did I know that I will use his songs to teach students grammar.\u00a0 Yup.\u00a0 One of the songs that I used to teach grammar<\/a> is this song.\u00a0 This is not a break up song.<\/a>\u00a0 It is a song which could be interpreted as someone who is searching for his identity and finally has the courage to decide on something.\u00a0 I used this song whenever I could (not only for the classes that I taught, but also relief classes).<\/p>\n

I remember I played this song during a relief class with Form 3 SK (girls).\u00a0 The girls love it!\u00a0 They requested for an encore.\u00a0 But when I came back to the teacher’s room, some of them commented that about hearing an English song playing in one of the classrooms and the students were singing (although this was not the first time<\/a>).\u00a0 Well, I was guilty as charge.\u00a0 What a heck!\u00a0 It is not easy to keep students motivated to learn English.\u00a0 I have to be creative in this sense.\u00a0 Indeed.<\/p>\n

I was given the gift to find it<\/span>
\nThe spirit inside me<\/span>
\nBut I never really imagined<\/span>
\nAll I could be<\/span><\/p>\n

The answer to all of my wonder<\/span>
\nWas right in my hands<\/span>
\nNow it is time for me to discover<\/span>
\nAll that I am<\/span><\/p>\n

I have always had wings<\/span>
\nNow I am finally ready to fly<\/span><\/p>\n
