{"id":4601,"date":"2019-11-19T12:53:06","date_gmt":"2019-11-19T04:53:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/people.utm.my\/hadijahjaffri\/?p=4601"},"modified":"2019-11-19T14:11:51","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T06:11:51","slug":"case-based-learning-how-it-is-done","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/people.utm.my\/hadijahjaffri\/case-based-learning-how-it-is-done\/","title":{"rendered":"Case based learning: How it is done?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">I am learning about this.\u00a0 So, I search lots of information from various sources about case based learning.\u00a0 One of it is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.queensu.ca\/ctl\/teaching-support\/instructional-strategies\/case-based-learning\"><strong>HERE.<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Case based learning is quite similar with scenario based learning.\u00a0 But what are the differences?\u00a0 \u00a0For Case based learning, according to the definition given <a href=\"https:\/\/poorvucenter.yale.edu\/faculty-resources\/strategies-teaching\/case-based-learning\">Yale Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning<\/a>, it refers to <span style=\"color: #333333\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif\"><em>Case-based learning (CBL) is an established approach used across disciplines where students apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios, promoting higher levels of cognition (see\u00a0<a style=\"color: #333333\" href=\"http:\/\/ctl.yale.edu\/BloomsTaxonomy\">Bloom\u2019s Taxonomy<\/a>). In CBL classrooms, students typically work in groups on case studies, stories involving one or more characters and\/or scenarios. \u00a0The cases present a disciplinary problem or problems for which students devise solutions under the guidance of the instructor.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\">In my case, when I craft a case or cases for my class discussion, I will relate it back with scenarios that happen at school (this is for Fundamental Pedagogy class &#8211; <em>Asas Pedagogi<\/em>).\u00a0 Since the topics of discussion would revolve around learning theories and models, teaching approaches, methods, strategies and techniques, I would craft a case or cases which would prompt students to analyse and evaluate the case or cases and later on to suggest something (it could be strategy and such) as alternatives or solutions to certain issues relating to the case or cases.\u00a0 In this regards, students would have to be able to link between theoretical aspects they learn [can find information from textbooks] with hypothetical reality (since I don&#8217;t expect them to go to schools to implement whatever solutions they come out with).\u00a0 But the hypothetical reality might be a real deal when they start their teaching practicum or after they graduated.\u00a0 For the time being, most of the cases are from my own experience while undergoing Latihan Ikhtisas.\u00a0 So, the cases are real.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">I find a short illustration of scenario based learning from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shiftelearning.com\/blog\/a-5-step-plan-to-create-your-own-scenario-based-elearning-course\">HERE<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 The poster is taken from Sh!ft Disruptive eLearning website.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.shiftelearning.com\/hs-fs\/hub\/159642\/file-2380766420-png\/B7_Scenario-based.png\" alt=\"B7_Scenario-based\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am learning about this.\u00a0 So, I search lots of information from various sources about case based learning.\u00a0 One of it is HERE.
