Dr. Haris Ahmad Bin Israr Ahmad is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) who specializes in Aeronautical Structure. In 2007, he received a B.Eng (Mechanical-Aeronautics) degree from UTM and in 2010 an MSc. Aerospace Mechanics and Avionics from Université de Toulouse (Institut Supérieur de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace), France. Right after finishing his master’s degree, he continued to pursue a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics of Materials at the same institution (ISAE, France).
During his 18 years as a faculty member, he has taught more than 10 courses related to mechanical and aeronautical structure engineering. Currently, he serves as the Head of Department for Aeronautics, Automotive, and Ocean Engineering. Formerly, he was the Academic Manager of the faculty and the Program Coordinator for MSc. Aeronautical Engineering. He is also an associate member of Aeronautics Laboratory (Aerolab), Center for Composite (CFC), and Computation Solid Mechanics Laboratory (CSMLab), UTM.
Dr. Haris’s research areas are mostly related to damage mechanics of composite structures i.e., low velocity impact, crashworthiness, and aging behavior, investigated both experimentally and numerically. He has authored several international journals and conference proceedings related to composite structures and numerical modeling. He has been appointed as a peer reviewer for several journals and has reviewed more than 50 indexed-journal papers. Currently, he is also one of the chief editors for The Engineer Story.
