Ir. Ts. Dr. Daniel Joe Dailin is a prominent senior lecturer in the Department of Bioprocess and Polymer Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). With a background in industrial experience as a principal scientist and as a research scientist, Dr. Daniel brings extensive knowledge and expertise to both his teaching and research roles. Dr. Daniel is an expert in fermentation and process scale-up and has a prolific publication record, having authored over 100 articles, including numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed journals. He has received several research grants, underscoring his contribution to advancing bioprocess engineering research. His work also extends to consultancy services for industry, where he applies his knowledge to solve real-world challenges.

Dr. Daniel’s professional affiliations underscore his commitment to advancing bioprocess engineering, including memberships in the Board of Engineers Malaysia and the Institute of Chemical Engineers. At UTM, he has served in leadership roles, such as the Head of the Microbial Bioprocessing Unit and the Postgraduate Coordinator for Bioprocess Engineering. His teaching excellence is recognized with several Faculty Excellence Awards, and he has led numerous training courses in industrial biotechnology and microbial bioprocessing.

An award-winning researcher, Dr. Daniel has earned accolades at faculty, university, national, and international levels, with distinctions such as the Publication Leadership Award, Highest Citation Awards, and the Best Paper Presenter award at BioTecnica 2024. His extensive consultancy work includes 18 funded projects, generating significant revenue for UTM. Dr. Daniel’s scholarly impact includes high-impact publications and contributions to editorial boards, positioning him as a vital contributor to the field of bioprocess engineering and biotechnology.

About DANIEL JOE DAILIN

Ir. Ts. Dr. Daniel Joe Dailin is currently a research fellow at Institute of Bioproduct Development(IBD) and senior lecturer at Bioprocess and Polymer Engineering Department, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Before joining UTM, he works as a principal scientist in the RND department of Asia’s largest integrated insulin manufacturing facility at the Biotech Park in Johor, Malaysia. He also previously worked as research scientist under CBBR HiCOE research centre, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Perak, Malaysia. He received his Ph.D. in Bioprocess Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Dr. Daniel has vast experience working in the operation and process scale up for bioprocess fermentation of bacteria and yeast platform; performing technology transfer activities; planning, carrying out and supervising process trials in laboratories, pilot plant and manufacturing plant. He has published more than 100 manuscripts including journal and book chapters. He is currently holding the position as the Head of Microbial Bioprocessing Unit at Institute of Bioproduct Development, Malaysia.
