SWOT ANALYSIS OF ACTIVE LEARNING PRACTICES IN THE HIGHER EDUCATION CONTEXTS WORKSHOP

Active Learning is a method of learning in which students  are actively or experientially involved in the learning  process. There are various levels of active learning, depending on students’  involvement. The discussion in this forum was on the designed activities and strategies, opportunities, weakness, and threats that that are taking place in active learning in classrooms and online, pre and post lessons.

After the discussion, participants expressed their opinions and shared some ways to improve and enhance activities in classrooms or online. It is hoped that this forum would motivate lecturers, teachers and students to be fully involved in the learning and teaching process, and thus, make them more interesting, appealing, and meaningful.

   

MAKIZUSHI AND ONIGIRI WORKSHOP

This program was offered by FSSHKL to the staff of UTMKL only. It was conducted to enrich participants’ knowledge on the Japanese everyday life like food culture. The hectic life of the Japanese has made them invented Makizushi and Onigiri which are Wrapped rice and Rice ball. Both are rice with fillings that are not only full of flavours but also rich in nourishment. In this workshop, the participants had the experience of making Makizushi and Onigiri. Participants also learned the many ways of eating rice, which is essential among Asians and Malaysians are not spared from this.

LEARNING DISCIPLINE THROUGH IKEBANA

This program was offered by FSSHKL to UTMKL staff only.

The aim was to expose participants to the attributes of the Japanese through their culture and this time, it was the art of Ikebana.

Ikebana is the art of Japanese flower arrangement style. Participants learned that every step doing the arrangement, they were acquiring discipline which was crucial in everyday life. Ikebana teaches us to do things orderly and to be more sensitive and concerned toward life in general. At the same time, participants learned the simplest way to arrange flower in  Japanese style.

This program was also meant to instil awareness on the importance of discipline in completing any tasks given and achieving beautiful outcomes.
