SUCCESSFUL OPEN DAY FOR UTM PAGOH

The bi-annual UTM Pagoh Open Day is the premier event of the 2019 calendar held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) – Pagoh on 20th November 2019.

Over two hundred school pupils attended the open day exhibition themed ‘Fun in Science’ aimed at helping them promoting interest in STEM education. The young students from schools across Muar, Johore got the chance to meet lecturers, researchers and industry at the event held together with the collaboration of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) Pagoh, International pick and pay stallIslamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Pagoh, and Tun Syed Nasir Polytechnic (PTSN) Pagoh. Special appreciation to invited speakers Mr. Rosdin Kimin Agriculture Officer for Muar District, Madam Noor Fadilla Abdul Rashid from Malaysia Pineapple Industry Board, Professor Ir. Dr. Mohd Farid Nasir Ani, Tuan Haji Amat Khir Mardi from Ayer Hitam Agriculture Institute, Malaysia-Japan Advance Research Centre (MJARC), IDEA Innovation Development Centre, Centre for Community and Industrial Network (CCIN), Research Management Centre (RMC) UTM and School of Chemical & Energy Engineering, UTM.

‘ICA Open Day @ UTM Pagoh 2019 has gone exceptionally well, It was a roaring success! I am very pleased with the way things have unfolded so far. It was indeed a great opportunity for all secondary students, expertise, and communities to gain and enjoy agritechnology’s knowledge together in UTM Pagoh. Special thanks to our special guest, Professor Dr. Mohamad Roji Sarmidi for the opening ceremony, all helpful and friendly ICA members, invited guest speakers, exhibitors, demonstrators, students, and all participants, said Director of 2019 UTM Open Day, Dr. Ong Pei Ying.

All in all, the local community who has been to the open day have expressed their positive feedback and was overwhelmed with the various exhibition and hands-on activities provided. The general public is out in their numbers, milling around and purchasing from the wide variety of products that are on sale. The organic vegetables were the best sellers and the public had experience ‘pick and pay’ their vegetable of choice. There was also a food preparation demonstration with local organic vegetables generating a lot of the public interest.
