{"id":90,"date":"2021-12-26T15:53:45","date_gmt":"2021-12-26T15:53:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/people.utm.my\/mohamednasef\/?page_id=90"},"modified":"2021-12-28T16:37:34","modified_gmt":"2021-12-28T16:37:34","slug":"expertise","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/people.utm.my\/mohamednasef\/expertise\/","title":{"rendered":"EXPERTISE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>I<\/strong><strong>)&nbsp;&nbsp; Teaching:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following undergraduate courses have been taught:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Physical Chemistry<\/li><li>Chemical Reaction Engineering.<\/li><li>Introduction to Polymer Engineering.<\/li><li>Polymeric materials for chemical engineers<\/li><li>Introduction to Material Engineering.<\/li><li>Radiation Processing of Polymeric Materials.<\/li><li>Membranes Separation Technology.<\/li><li>General Chemistry I &amp;II.<\/li><li>Organic Chemistry.<\/li><li>Fundamentals of fuel cells<\/li><li>Ion Exchange Materials for separation and purification purposes<\/li><li>Applied statistics and Research methodology<\/li><li>Effective research writing<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>II)<\/strong> <strong>Curriculum Development and teaching:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following courses were developed and also taught:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Polymeric materials for chemical engineers (elective final year and post-graduated course\/chemical engineering).<\/li><li>Fundamentals of fuel cells (elective final year and post-graduated course).<\/li><li>Renewable Energy (post-graduated course\/chemical engineering)<\/li><li>Energy Conversion Science and Technology (elective final year and post-graduated course\/chemical engineering)<\/li><li>Ion Exchange Materials for separation and purification purposes (post-graduated course\/chemical engineering).<\/li><li>Effective research writing (post-graduated module for postgraduate students).<\/li><li>Applied statistics and Research methodology (post-graduated course).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>III) Research:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Synthesis of neutral and functional polymeric membranes using conventional and radiation induced grafting techniques.<\/li><li>Design and fabrication of membrane modules.<\/li><li>Characterization of the permeation performance of the membranes for various applications.<\/li><li>Commissioning and operating laboratory scale membrane gas separation pilot plant.<\/li><li>Natural gas analysis using gas chromatography.<\/li><li>Design systems to prepare membranes and resins using radiation-induced graft copolymerization using direct and pre-irradiation methods.<\/li><li> Evaluation of various properties of functional polymeric membranes.<\/li><li>Making membrane\/electrode assembly for H<sub>2<\/sub>\/O<sub>2<\/sub> and DMFC fuel cells.<\/li><li>Testing ion exchange membranes as electrolytes in H<sub>2<\/sub>\/O<sub>2<\/sub> fuel cells.<\/li><li>Testing of gas (H<sub>2<\/sub> and O<sub>2<\/sub>) permeations through polymer electrolyte membranes.<\/li><li>Preparation, characterization and testing of battery separator (for Li-battery).<\/li><li>Testing ion exchange membranes and resins for removal of heavy metals from waster water.<\/li><li>Testing ion exchange membranes for acid catalysis for inversion of sugar into glucose and fructose and also for biodiesel production.<\/li><li>Familiar with the various types of material analysis techniques including X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), Differential Gravimetric Analysis (DTA) and TG-FTIR, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, universal mechanical tester and AC impedance techniques for conductivity measurements.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>III)&nbsp;&nbsp; Administrative and managerial:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Lab. Manger in-charge of Membrane Research Unit (MRU) resources (4\/7\/1994 &#8211; 31\/6\/1999).<\/li><li>Member of procurement committee in Chemical Engineering Program at University Technology Petronas, Malaysia.<\/li><li>Member of the committee in-charge of reviewing the specifications of the analytical equipments to be purchased for the various chemistry laboratories in the new campus of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia.<\/li><li>Member of curriculum review committee in Chemical Engineering Program at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia.<\/li><li>Member of evaluation committee for monitoring the progress of the candidates taking Engineering Doctorate Program under Business and Advanced Technology Centre (BATC), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.<\/li><li>Person-in-charge for development of renewable energy lab.
