SCHOLARSHIP AND FINANCIAL AID in UTM

Hi all, I would like to share some scholarship and financial aid to further study in Postgraduate degree (Masters and PhD) in UTM.

1. UTM Zamalah Scholarship

Requirement
  • Open to student in 1st until 3rd Semester
  • Applicants must be of Malaysian nationality
  • Open to full-time PhD student
  • Not under any employment or receiving any form of financial aid from other sources.
  • 35 years old and below
Award Range
  • Coverage for tuition fees costs
  • Monthly allowances ranging from RM1,500.00

2. Tan Sri Ainuddin Wahid Scholarship

Requirement
  • Applicants must be of Malaysian nationality;
  • Not exceeding 35 years of age by 1 January 2018;
  • Currently enrolled in first year of doctoral studies in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
  • Currently not bonded to any employees;
  • Priority will be given to candidates that prepares a research proposal which has a potential benefit towards knowledge development;
  • Succeeded in producing and publishing acknowledged academic works;
  • Displayed exceptional leadership qualities, flexibility, versatility, and good teamwork capabilities;
  • Displayed top of the class attitude in academics, co-curricular, community service and sporting activities;
  • Applicants are bound to the terms and regulations of the Ainuddin Wahid Scholarship, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia;
  • Applicants have to attend an interview for recipients selection purpose.
Academic Qualification
  • Achieved a minimum grade of 3.50 in First degree study from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or other recognized universities;
  • Achieved a minimum grade of 3.70 in Master degree for Course Work and Mixed Mode;
  • Achieved a minimum Band 4 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET) or IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL ≥ 600 / TOEFL iBT ≥ 85;
  • Excellent mastery of both Malay and English language.
Award Range
  • Coverage of tuition fees for 6 semester;
  • Subsistence allowance for 36 months (RM4,000.00 a month);
  • Research funding up to RM10,000.00 a year;
  • Oversea attachment costs for a maximum of 6 months (cost of living and travel);
  • Coverage for research presentation costs;
  • Coverage for copyright and patent licensing costs;
  • Personality development programmes;
  • Incentive publications allowance.

3. International Doctoral Fellowship

Requirement
  • Application is open to International students registered as full time PhD student at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia who are currently in 1st Semester until 6th Semester only.
  • Applicant is currently not working or receiving any form of financial aids from other sources.
  • Applicant is required to be in Malaysia within 2 months during the application period.
  • Publications without the name of Main Supervisor and UTM affiliation will not be considered.
  • Applicant who has received the IDF in the previous semesters, must submit papers published within one (1) previous year and current only.
  • Papers will be evaluated based on the contribution of the writers.
  • Publication MUST be verified by Main Supervisor on the first page of the article/s.
  • The decision in relation to the IDF award is FINAL and no appeal will be considered/entertained.
  • The University has right to reject the application in the event of False information provided.

4. UTM National Postgraduate Fund

Requirement
  • Currently in ‘Active’ status.
  • Applications are open to PhD students in semesters 1 to 6 and to Master’s students in semesters 1 to 4.
  • Applicant is currently not working or receiving any form of financial aids from other sources.
  • Students with good publications record will be given priority.
  • Students in semester 2 and above must have obtained a grade of MM—Satisfactory in the Progress Report in the previous semester and have an excellent academic track record.
  • 35 years old and below for Master Level and 45 years old and below for PhD Level.
  • Priority will be given to applicant with minimum RM5,000.00 and below household income.

5. UTM Young Scholars Grant

This grant support doctoral and research masters candidates to present their research findings in well-established and high impact international/national conferences by funding the conference fees.

Application Requirements / Instructions

  1. Open to students (both local & international) registered in PhD and Master by Research programs in UTM. However, for international students only those enrolled in doctoral programme are eligible.
  2. Priority is given to an applicant in semester 1-6 for PhD and semester 1-3 for Master by Research candidate.
  3. Application should be filed in advance at least two (2) months prior the date of the conference. These documents are required for the application:
        a) Details of the conference with your name as presenter (e.g: proceeding, concurrent schedule);
        b) Offer/Invitation letter from organizer;
        c) Abstract of paper presentation;
        d) Quotation of the registration fees;
  4. Only approved applications, will qualify to claim for the grant.
  5. Applicant must be invited as an oral presenter and present at the conference. Applicant must be the first student author of the paper, which must cover original, ongoing research and directly related to the applicant thesis topic.
  6. Applicant must not receive any full scholarship (tuition fees and monthly allowance) during the application submission.
  7. Applicant can only be awarded with this financial assistance ONCE throughout the study.
  8. Please take note that an applicant’s funding will be cancelled upon submission of thesis for viva voce.
  9. Only attendance to conference organized by registered association/university/research institute/academic organization/government agency (preferably indexed conference) will be considered for financial support. Supervisors are responsible to check and ensure that the conference is not organized by commercial organizer.
  10. The rates for this funding are as below:
        a) PhD – maximum amount of RM700
        b) Master by Research – maximum amount of RM500

6. Publication Incentive Claim

Students may apply the Publication Incentive Claim as a endorsements from the university for the research publications that they have produced.

Claim Payments

Below are the maximum value in claims that a student can apply for the Publication Incentive:

  • Q1 : RM250.00
  • Q2: RM250.00

The new rate is effective from 1st June 2020.

Application is subjected to the availability of the allocation approved by the University.

Claim Criteria

The criteria required in making Publication Incentive Claims:

  1. The applicant must be the First Student Author and UTM Graduate student
  2. Published paper must have volume no. and page no.
  3. Affiliation must be Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
  4. Applicant must be the First Student Author and supervisor(s) must be one of the authors
  5. All claims made in the current year are only valid for paper published in the CURRENT SEMESTER and in ONE PREVIOUS SEMESTER

7. Work – Study Scholarship

The Work – Study Scholarship is aimed to encourage UTM students to be self-reliant and to gain some valuable working experience in campus before they enter the workforce. This program provides an opportunity to gain intensive skills development training and paid employment alongside your studies.

Requirement
  • Work-Study Scholarship is offered to the students over the duration of the study until graduation.
  • The continuation of scholarship depends on the student work performance.

Terms & Conditions

  1. Work-Study Scholarship are available for current and local postgraduate student in Research Mode programme.
  2. Students who are on industrial attachment, professional attachment, internship and practicum are not allowed to work under the Work-Study Scholarship.
  3. All students (except for students on selected scholarships administered by the university) are eligible to apply for Work-Study Scholarship.
  4. Maximum Hours allowed
  5. Term Time (includes Recess week): Students are allowed to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week.
  6. Vacation Time: Students are allowed to work for a maximum of 9 hours in one day or 44 hours in one week.
  7. Students should note that commitments from employment will not be accepted as valid reasons for absence, uncompleted work, late submission of work, or poor performance, and may lead to exclusion from certain compulsory program of the faculty.
