A brief write-up on my personal leadership development plan, based on the Four Pillars of Self-leadership. The area where I excel and need to improve
Leadership Development Plan
As a senior lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, my professional growth is important to the success of my students. I will focus on the four pillars of self-leadership: (1) knowing who I am, (2) knowing what I am doing, (3) knowing what I need to learn, and (4) using what I know, to achieve my goals. These pillars will serve as the foundation for effective leadership in my current role as a lecturer.
To enhance my understanding of my strengths, weaknesses, and values, I must first know who I am. To achieve this, I will actively seek feedback from colleagues, students, and mentors to gain an external perspective on my performance and identify areas for improvement. By managing my time and energy effectively, I will gain an understanding of what I am doing. I will prioritize tasks by ranking them from most to least important, ensuring that I focus on activities that align with my long-term goals. To maintain motivation, I will set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals for both short-term and long-term aspirations, clearly defining what I need to learn and achieve. By consciously using what I already know, I can make better decisions and stay focused on my priorities.
Integrating ISES
My career is marked by my commitment to maintaining integrity, fostering synergistic collaborations, achieving academic excellence, and sustaining a long-term approach to career development. With a solid foundation in analytical chemistry and extensive professional experience, I am confident in my ability to navigate the complexities of academia while making meaningful contributions to my field. However, I recognize that continuous growth is essential to furthering my impact. To thrive in academia, I must balance my personal and professional life effectively. With UTM’s 7P framework as a measure of academic performance, I am dedicated to managing my time efficiently to excel in all 7Ps. Seeking guidance from my mentors and maintaining relationships with people around me will be crucial in achieving these goals.
