BIOGRAPHY
Muhammad Anwar Ahmad is a multidisciplinary scholar whose work spans Extended Reality (XR), cultural preservation, and digital humanities. As a researcher at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), he has been involved with innovative projects such as the Digital Preservation of Zapin Dance on the Metaverse and the AI-driven hologram of Tunku Abdul Rahman for historical education and cultural heritage, supported by both academic and industry grants. His research integrates XR technologies with cultural storytelling, contributing to Malaysia’s digital transformation in education and heritage.
Muhammad Anwar Bin Ahmad received his PhD in Computer Science from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2024 with his thesis titled “SPATIAL MAPPING FRAMEWORK FOR AUGMENTED REALITY OCCLUSION HANDLING USING HANDHELD AND DEPTH CAMERA FUSION”. In 2019 he received his MPhil in Computer Science, with project about position-aware facial expression algorithm for Zapin dance. He was awarded the Skim Latihan Akademik Muda scholarship from UTM during his PhD study, which paved the way for him to become an academic in UTM. During his PhD study, he was appointed as an instructor to teach Computer Graphics and Multimedia undergraduate students the Unity3D software. He also has been involved in several exhibitions at university, national and international level, which focuses on the Mivielab research products.
He has published in indexed journals and mentoring postgraduate students, reflecting his commitment to academic excellence. His work emphasizes the intersection of immersive technology and cultural identity, making him a key contributor to Malaysia’s XR research landscape. In addition to his scholarly output, he actively collaborates with industry partners to bring XR applications into real-world settings, particularly in education and historical visualization.
