Winning Bronze at NALI 2025 with PolyLinguAR: Next Gen AI-Powered Language Learning
Oct 13
Our mivieLab team proudly brought home Bronze Medal at the NALI 2025 competition, held at Persada Johor on 7-8th October 2025. This recognition marks an exciting milestone for our team and our innovative project led by myself titled, PolyLinguAR – a cutting-edge web-based augmented reality (WebAR) application that redefines how people learn new languages. Our team consists of prominent researchers at UTM, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ajune Wanis Binti Ismail, Dr. Fazliaty Edora Binti Fadzli Dr. Norhaida Binti Mohd Suaib Ms. Nor Anita Fairos Binti Ismail Dr. Aida Binti Ali. We also had the support of our postgraduate students, Mr. Mohamad Haikal Arman and Mr. Tee Ng Zikang. Both students demonstrated exceptional skills and commitment.

PolyLinguAR combines immersive AR technology with artificial intelligence to create an interactive, personalized learning experience. At its core is an AI avatar that serves as both teacher and conversation partner. Learners can engage with the avatar to practice pronunciation, receive real-time feedback, and even ask questions about the language they are studying. This dynamic interaction allows users to move beyond rote memorization and instead build confidence through natural, conversational learning.

The application’s unique approach lies in how it merges language education with AR immersion. By placing the AI tutor in the learner’s environment right through a web browser, PolyLinguAR removes the barriers of traditional apps and classrooms. The experience feels personal and engaging, transforming abstract vocabulary into meaningful, contextual interactions.
Aside from PolyLinguAR, another one of our project titled ChemMR-AI Lab, led by Dr. Fazliaty Edora had won Silver medal. Her project focuses on simulation of experiments using Mixed Reality technology, with the current focus on STEM subject. Furthermore, concurrently with NALI 2025, the INATEX 2025 competition was also held on the same day and venue, with our project led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ajune Wanis titled, LUMIEA had won bronze medal. The project focuses on customization of avatars with the option of adding multilingual voice cloned speech.

Winning the Bronze Medal at NALI 2025 highlights MivieLab’s commitment to educational innovation and the transformative potential of emerging technologies. The team’s vision for PolyLinguAR is to make language learning accessible, interactive, and truly global, bridging cultures through intelligent technology. Our achievement was also recognized by the Faculty of Computing, UTM through their social media post. We appreciate the recognition and this will boost our motivation to achieve higher and bring back the gold medal in the future, insya Allah.

As PolyLinguAR continues to evolve, the MivieLab team aims to expand its range of supported languages and integrate more advanced conversational AI features. With the recognition from NALI 2025, the project stands as a testament to how creativity and technology can come together to inspire the future of education.
