The road to promoting biomedical engineering
On 11 April 2017, Dr. Hadafi and I attended a meeting at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Skudai, Johor. The meeting was held to discuss some programmes that can be conducted in collaboration between SMK Skudai and FBME UTM. The programme is not only can promoting bachelor in biomedical engineering in UTM, but at the same time can deliver knowledge to the school students on how and what is engineering about. FOr the first kick start, there will be a visit from SMK Skudai to FBME. A total of 80 students and 5 teachers will come to visit FBME’s lecture hall and some laboratories. The second event is a workshop for the students of SMK SKudai. A workshop on how to use SOlidworks will be conducted at the school. This will expose to the students regarding the knowledge of manufacturing process that happened in the engineering industry.
A-Step Meeting – March 2017
A-Step meeting in March 2017. We managed to play Lego again. This time for those who are not attending last meeting. They need to describe himself/herself using Lego where a metaphor should be presented in front of the audience. Same goes with the last meeting, there is nothing new. New member in A-Step who are just joining after completed his PhD in Oxford, Dr. Nazri Bajuri.

Lego Smart Play
On 5th April, I had a workshop on Lego Smart Play. The main aim of this workshop was to strengthen the knowledge of playing Lego.
The LEGO® SMART PLAY® Method is a facilitated meeting, communication and problem-solving process in which participants are led through a series of questions, probing deeper and deeper into the subject. Each participant builds his or her own 3D LEGO® model in response to the facilitator´s questions using specially selected LEGO® elements. These 3D models serve as a basis for group discussion, knowledge sharing, problem solving and decision making.
The LEGO® SMART PLAY® Method is a technique which improves group problem solving. By utilizing visual, auditory and kinesthetic skills, the Method requires participants to learn and listen, and it provides all participants with a voice. The Method serves as a shared language regardless of culture or position. It is also a method that requires a trained LEGO® SMART PLAY® facilitator.
Supervisory Courses – AS102
In order for me to become a main supervisor of PhD student, I have to attend the Supervisory Courses conducted by UTM. This is good courses since we (as a newbie) should absorb knowledge from senior who had much experiences handled PhD students with different background, attitude and skills. There are three module should I attend: AS101, AS102 and AS103. For AS101, I have attended last year on November where this first module focusing on how to use UTM systems such as AIMSWEB, GSMS and eLearning. For next module which is AS102, this was conducted in 2-full-days on 3rd and 4th April 2017. There were 4 prominent professors given a talk to all of the participants, 2 of them from Faculty of Science and the rest from Faculty of Geoinformation.
