Personal leadership development plan based on the Four Pillars of Self-leadership

1. Knowing Who I Am

Self awareness is essential in my leadership development as an educator and researcher. My core belief is to develop knowledge, creativity, and critical thinking among students. Integrity, perseverance, and continuous learning are key to my role as a lecturer and mentor which I value a lot. My professional goal is to contribute to the advancement of efficient software testing techniques, ensuring high-quality software development through model-based testing and machine learning approaches, while also ensuring that my students develop strong software engineering skills.

2. Knowing What I Do

My behavior reflects a commitment to both academia and industry-relevant research. I involve in teaching, research and mentorship to make sure that students understand theoretical concepts but also apply them in real world situations. My motivation comes from a desire to close the gap between research and practical application, as seen in my current projects on EFSM-based test case generation. In addition to that, I also take other responsibilities, like evaluating internship programs and mentoring students in their final year projects, further strengthening my role as a leader in education.

3. Knowing What I Need to Learn

In order to expand my leadership in both academia and research, I will have to increase my expertise in machine learning applications in software testing and explore more effective ways to integrate the software engineering industry practices in teaching. Furthermore, I will be able to mentor better by refining my skills in student engagement, project supervision and software testing practices. I will also work on improving my ability in securing research grants and collaborating with industry stakeholders. These skills are achievable with a structured learning plan through workshops, certifications, and academic networking.

4. Applying What I Know

To translate my knowledge into impactful leadership, I will:

  • Develop a structured approach to mentor my students to make sure they gain practical insights beyond the classroom.
  • Build successful habits like setting clear research goals, maintaining consistency in academic writing, and regularly updating my teaching methodologies.
  • Create an environment that fosters innovation by encouraging students to take on research-driven projects aligned with industry needs.
  • Strengthen collaborations with fellow researchers, industry professionals, and institutions to ensure continuous improvement in my field.

The implementation of these four pillars will enable me in becoming a more effective academic leader in academia, research, and professional development, which contributes to my students’ growth and advancement of software engineering progress.
