To many, the placenta is merely an afterthought. Within the M\u0101ori culture of New Zealand, however, the placenta is revered and often buried in a place of familial significance. Now one woman’s Facebook post has spotlighted the ancient tradition and encouraged mothers to share their own stories.<\/p>\n

Photographer Emma Jean focuses on capturing births and newborns, stemming from her other profession as a midwife. She posted an image<\/a> of baby Harper on Facebook, still connected to the placenta, and took the opportunity to ask women how they honour the process of birth. Read more…<\/a><\/p>\n
