Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus announced Monday that its famous and controversial touring elephant show will be coming to an end in May, a year and a half earlier than expected.<\/p>\n

The remaining elephants in the circus will now enjoy retirement in typical American style at a center in Florida<\/p>\n

The elephant show has been a popular staple of the circus for more than a century, but has increasingly come under scrutiny amid increasing concerns over animal cruelty in circus shows.<\/p>\n

The circus’ parent company, Feld Entertainment, told The Associated Press that all of the iconic elephants will be permanently retired to the company’s 200-acre Center for Elephant Conservation in central Florida by May. There are 11 elephants on tour with the circus. Read more…<\/a><\/p>\n
