An explosion in the historic district of Sultanahmet, close to the Blue Mosque, in Istanbul, has left 10 dead and many others wounded, the governor’s office has confirmed.<\/p>\n

The explosion, which took place near the obelisk of Theodosius was strong enough to be heard in nearby neighborhoods, according<\/a> to CNN Turk.<\/p>\n

An investigation has started to determine who was behind the attack. Local media outlets have reported<\/a> that it was likely caused by a suicide bomber.<\/p>\n
