A 60-year-old farmer in Sichuan, China, found himself 20,000 yuan ($3,000) poorer when the banknotes he buried in his bedroom had been destroyed by white ants.<\/p>\n

Qi Shengli, who lives in Goujiao town in Yuechi county, told Chinese media outlets that he didn’t remember exactly how long the money was stored in the 15 cm (6-inch) deep hole he dug in the corner of his bedroom. “It might be one or two years,” he said.<\/p>\n

According to Qi, he had separated the banknotes into two bags and covered the hole with a brick after burying them. Over the recent Chinese New Year, Qi removed the brick to find that white ants had eaten away at most of the cash. Read more…<\/a><\/p>\n
