Our very first American Idol returned to the magical blue stage to do a stripped down and breathtaking version of her song “Piece by Piece,” a deeply personal tune that Clarkson wrote about what it felt like not to have her father in her life growing up. Clarkson, who wrote the song for her daughter, has opened up before about how the ballad is often difficult for her to get through<\/a> and it seems this night was no exception<\/p>\n
