The quake \u2014 which had an epicenter near the country\u2019s capital, Quito \u2014 demolished entire cities, trapping many survivors under rubble that has yet to be thoroughly searched.<\/p>\n
The most recent<\/a> death toll, according to Ecuadorean president Rafael Correa, is 272 \u2014 though that toll is expected to rise, possibly dramatically, in the coming days.
