The Australian government’s controversial site blocking bill is about to get another workout.<\/p>\n

On Monday, some of the country’s largest record companies, including Universal Music Australia, Warner Music Australia and SonyMusic Entertainment Australia, announced they would be seeking to have<\/a> the site KickassTorrents and proxy sites blocked in Australia.<\/p>\n

The labels are able to take the legal action thanks to an amendment to the Copyright Act<\/a> passed in 2015. Rights holders can now apply to the Federal Court to force Internet service providers to block foreign websites that have the “primary purpose” of facilitating copyright infringement.
