LONDON \u2014 People’s gender should be removed from official documents, such as passports and driving licences, in a bid to end transgender discrimination, a Conservative member of parliament has said.<\/p>\n

Maria Miller\u00a0\u2014 chair of the new Women and Equalities Select Committee \u2014 called for the Government to “strip back” talking about gender unless it was essential. In an interview with The Times<\/em>, the former cabinet minister\u00a0stated<\/a> that de-gendering official documents could help people transitioning who have not yet obtained a gender recognition certificate; a document that is only issued in the UK once gender reassignment surgery has taken place.
