Johor Bahru, 27 July 2024UniKL solidified its position as a leader in technological innovation at the 6th Digitalised International Invention, Innovation and Design (DIIID) 2024, where Ts. Dr. Mohd Aliff Afira Bin Sani and his team won top honors for their groundbreaking project, Agri Drone – Deep Learning Models for Crop Leaf Disease Detection on Real-Time Drone Monitoring. This cutting-edge research earned the prestigious Best of The Best: Professional (Science Technology) award, showcasing UniKL’s commitment to driving impactful solutions in agriculture through technology.

The project, spearheaded by Ts. Dr. Mohd Aliff Afira Bin Sani (UniKL), along with Ts. Dr. Mohd Ismail Yusof (UniKL), Ts. Dr. Nor Samsiah Sani (UKM), Ahmad Adlan Bin Anuar (UniKL), and Assoc. Prof. Ts. Chm. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Nik Malek (UTM), stood out for its innovative use of deep learning integrated with drone technology. This system enables real-time monitoring and early detection of crop diseases, offering a transformative approach to disease management in agriculture. By allowing faster response times and more precise interventions, this solution promises to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability.

The collaborative nature of the project, which involved experts from UniKL, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and Urima University, was instrumental in its success. The interdisciplinary approach brought together knowledge from various fields, ensuring that the technology was both practical and scientifically robust.

The project received several prestigious awards, including:

The awards were presented by Assoc. Professor Dr. Saunah Zainon, Rector of Universiti Teknologi MARA Johor, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Lusmeilia Afriani, Rector of Universitas Lampung, during a ceremony on 1 August 2024.
