On 10 October 2024, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) hosted the Strategy Management Series with a special focus on “Economic Strategies for Future-Proofing Public Research Universities.” The event took place at Dewan Senat, Bangunan Canseleri Sultan Ibrahim, UTM Johor Bahru, starting at 9:30 am.

The keynote speaker for the session was YBhg. Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Azlan Ghazali, Director of the Malaysian Inclusive Development and Advancement Institute (MINDA) at UKM and Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia. Prof. Noor Azlan brought forward critical insights on the evolving landscape of higher education and research institutions, emphasizing the importance of economic strategies that adapt to the changing demands of society.

During his talk, he highlighted the crucial link between research and teaching, urging UTM and other public research universities to rethink their organizational structures to stay relevant in a rapidly shifting world. His focus on understanding the “why” behind academic and research frameworks resonated with attendees, emphasizing that innovation and adaptability are key to thriving in the future.

This event was organized by the Office of Strategy & Corporate Affairs UTM, in collaboration with the Center for Talent and Leadership Development. It served as a platform for academic leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to explore innovative solutions aimed at strengthening the economic foundations of public research universities, ensuring their continued role in driving societal and technological progress.
