5–26 May 2025 | Centre for Sustainable Nanomaterials (CSNano), UTM Johor Bahru
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through the Centre for Sustainable Nanomaterials (CSNano), welcomed a delegation of undergraduate students from Brawijaya University, Indonesia, for a three-week Research Attachment Program held from 5 to 26 May 2025. The initiative is part of UTM’s ongoing commitment to foster international collaboration in scientific research, particularly in the field of nanotechnology.
The program brought together six outstanding students—Mr. I Gusti Ngurah Agung Wiwekenanda, Ms. Kinar Safira Dyah Paramita, Ms. Raisha Anis Fatiha, Ms. Jihan Salwa Azizah, and Mr. Christian Kencana Ngabdi—who immersed themselves in hands-on nanomaterials research under the guidance of experienced UTM researchers.
The attachment commenced with participation in the 10th International Conference and Workshop on Basic and Applied Sciences (ICOWOBAS 2025) at Le Grandeur Palm Resort, providing students with exposure to the global research landscape.
Over the following weeks, participants underwent structured laboratory sessions focusing on the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using plant extracts, UV-Vis spectroscopy analysis, and various characterization techniques including FTIR, XRD, and TEM. The program was enriched with a series of lectures delivered by UTM academics including Assoc. Prof. Ts. ChM. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Nik Malek, Assoc. Prof. ChM. Dr. Lee Siew Ling, Dr. Juan Matmin, and Dr. Siti Salwa Alias.
Notable highlights of the program included:
-
A site visit to the Kelulut Farm, emphasizing sustainable agriculture.
-
A tour of the Institute of Bioproduct Development (IBD) at UTM.
-
A special session on e-waste and pharmaceutical waste handling, aligning with global sustainability goals.
The program concluded with a student presentation and a Closing Ceremony held at the Ibnu Sina Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research, reflecting on their achievements and learning outcomes.
This collaboration is a testament to CSNano’s commitment to empowering future scientists and expanding UTM’s global research network. Congratulations to all participants and facilitators for making this international exchange a success.
