Malang, Indonesia | 26–28 May 2025 – Assoc. Prof. Ts. ChM. Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam Nik Malek from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) was invited as one of the distinguished parallel session speakers at the 7th International Conference on Bioscience and Medical Engineering (ICBME) held in conjunction with the 2nd Brawijaya International Conference on Pharmacy (BICP) at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya.
Under the theme “The Significance of Bioscience in the Advancement of Medical Science and Global Health”, Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam presented his latest research entitled “Antibacterial Activity of Biosynthesized Bauhinia kockiana-Silver Nanoparticles Incorporating Zeolite Y.” The study, conducted with collaborators from UTM’s Department of Biosciences and the Centre for Sustainable Nanomaterials (CSNano), highlights a green synthesis approach using B. kockiana leaf extract to produce silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), which were subsequently embedded into a zeolite Y matrix to form a nanocomposite with strong antibacterial properties.
This eco-friendly material showed significant antibacterial activity, especially against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, and offers promising applications in biomedical and environmental fields.
Dr. Nik Ahmad Nizam’s participation in the ICBME-BICP 2025 not only showcases UTM’s growing leadership in sustainable nanotechnology but also strengthens collaborative research links within the ASEAN bioscience and pharmaceutical research community.
