KALAM telah ditubuhkan pada Jun 1996 di atas landasan kerja Lukisan Terukur yang dihasilkan oleh para pelajar Senibina, UTM kerana kekhuatiran akan kehilangan warisan senibina Malaysia. Usaha mendokumentasikan bangunan-bangunan tradisional telah bermula sejak 1975 lagi. Kini, KALAM mempunyai misi untuk mengkaji dan memahami dunia Melayu yang mengunjur luas di benua Asia dan kepulauan pasifik bagi mendalami faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi hubungan alam bina dan budaya-budaya yang terdapat di dunia Melayu.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The KALAM Centre was set up in June 1995 on the foundation of numerous intricate Measured Drawing works of historical buildings out of concern for the rapid disintegration and elimination of Malaysia’s Architectural Heritage. The documentation of heritage buildings has started since 1975. Today, the centre is geared towards a wider concern for the understanding of the Malay World which stretches out to a greater part of the Asian continent and the Pacific archipelago towards a better understanding of the factors influencing the relationship between built form and many cultures of the Malay World.<\/em><\/p>\n

Menjadi pusat rujukan nasional berdasarkan arkib, perkhidmatan, latihan dan perundingan mengenai seni bina dan alam bina warisan lingkungan Melayu.<\/strong><\/p>\n
