A heat engine is a name given to a thermodynamic system which operates in a cyclic manner and produces a network from a heat supplied to it. The examples of such systems include internal combustion engines, a vapour power plant and a gas turbine plant. A reversed heat engine is a thermodynamic system that is used to absorb heat from a cooled space and rejects the heat to a warmer space. Its applications are in refrigeration, heat pump and air-conditioning systems.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In this course, students will be taught the basic components, principles of operation and methods to assess and improve the performance of these systems. In addition, conduction, convection, and radiation, the three basic modes of heat transfer with the covered. Emphasis will be on developing a physical and analytical understanding of the three modes of heat transfer, as well as its applications.
