Its my first posting in 2019…so many things to write but have class to attend..

will update this post later 🙂

Malaysia Technology Expo 2018

Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) has grown to become one of the region’s most recognized international invention fairs since its beginning in 2001. MTE 2018 is the 17th edition of this prestigious event, and is expected to welcome 500+ exhibits in 2018. Themed “Asia’s Inventions and Innovations Marketplace”, MTE2018 provides the ideal venue for inventors, designers and entrepreneurs to showcase their latest inventions, ideas, prototypes, products and designs to investors, manufacturers, distributors and marketers in Asia and beyond who are seeking new ideas to work on, making it the ideal platform for technological commercialization and collaboration.

MTE 2018 is where you view the latest ideas that can change the world—inventions and prototypes by universities, research institutes, technical and vocational schools, secondary schools, private organizations and individual inventors who are taking scientific and technological innovation to the next level (international level).

This year I bring two products representing UTM in MTE 2018. We won one silver medal and one bronze medal. Of course I am expecting for at least one gold medal, but I guess its not my rezki yet..Hoping for better results in the upcoming years, Insya Allah. Here are some pictures during MTE 2018 during evaluation by the judges and sharing our invention with the visitors. It was indeed a very good exposure for me myself and my team members.

PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES AND METHANE ADSORPTION PERFORMANCE OF ACTIVATED CARBON NANOFIBERS WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF METAL OXIDES

Alhamdulillah, another paper of us was accepted by Carbon Letters, journal indexing by WOS and Scopus.

Below are the abstract for these paper;

In this study, composite PAN-based ACNFs embedded with MgO and MnO2 were prepared by the electrospinning method. The resultant pristine ACNFs, ACNF/MgO and ACNF/MnO2 were characterized in terms of their morphological changes, SSA, crystallinity and functional group with FESEM-EDX, the BET method, XRD and FTIR analysis, respectively. Results from this study showed that the SSA of the ACNF/MgO composite (1893 m2 g–1) is significantly higher than that of the pristine ACNFs and ACNF/MnO2 which is 478 and 430 m2 g–1, respectively. FTIR analysis showed peaks of 476 and 547 cm–1, indicating the presence of MgO and MnO2, respectively. The FESEM micrographs analysis showed a smooth but coarser structure in all the ACNFs. Meanwhile, the ACNF/MgO has the smallest fiber diameter (314.38±62.42 nm) compared to other ACNFs. The presence of MgO and MnO2 inside the ACNFs was also confirmed with EDX analysis as well as XRD. The adsorption capacities of each ACNF toward CH4 were tested with the volumetric adsorption method in which the ACNF/MgO exhibited the highest CH4 adsorption up to 2.39 mmol g–1. Meanwhile, all the ACNF samples followed the pseudo-second order kinetic model with a R2 up to 0.9996.

Polyacrylonitrile/magnesium oxide-based activated carbon nanofibers with well-developed microporous structure and their adsorption performance for methane

Alhamdulillah. Our paper has been accepted in Journal of Industrial and Enginering Chemistry, Elsevier with impact factor 4.31.

I am feeling joy over the moon that the paper has finally been accepted in high impact factor journal..congrats to my student Faten Ermala who is the first author of this paper

JIEC

‘This paper described PAN-based ACNFs incorporated with MgO was prepared by electrospinning process followed by appropriate activation process. The addition of MgO caused physicochemical changes in term of smaller fiber diameter with an average diameter of 520 nm and higher surface area which is up to four times (1893 m2 g−1) as compared to pristine ACNFs (478 m2 g−1). Moreover, the modified ACNFs possessed a better adsorption capacity with higher CH4 adsorption of 2.37 mmol g−1. From the experimental data, the adsorption of CH4 by composite ACNFs obeyed the pseudo-second order kinetic model with R2 value up to 0.9996 and best fitted by Freundlich isotherm model.
